Loosening your tongue in Canada

More and more Brazilians decide to learn English outside the country. But the first step is to get information. The Canadian Education Centre can help.

For some time now, the United States and England have lost the rank of the most sought after countries to learn English. Canada, Australia and New Zealand entered the race with its competitive pricing, excellent responsiveness to students and high quality of life.

To support and remove possible doubts, The Canadian Education Centre, which operates in the area of support for students who want to study in Canada, has been operating in Brazil for five years and provides information on preparatory courses in English. Data on university courses, masters degrees, doctorates and scholarships are also part of the services provided. Once you have decided that Canada is the ideal country to study, the CEC provides useful information about the country, such as weather, expenses, accommodation, adaptation and behaviour of the Canadians. Best of all, the services are free.

The number of Brazilian students in Canada increases every year. According to the Canadian Education Centre (CEC) in their first three years of operations in Brazil about two thousand student visas per year were issued. Last year that number increased to just over 4,700 visas. "Even with the September 11 attack on the United States and, more recently, SARS in Toronto, demand remained high," says Canadian Debbie Roque, who worked in the marketing area of CEC in Brazil. Debbie attests to the great interest of the Brazilians in Canada, as the Center has grown steadily and is hiring new employees.

According to CEC, the interest is related to the study of English. "The demand for English courses mean about 30% of the service centre," they add. It is not wrong to say that “paulistas” represent a majority when it comes to study in Canada. Recent research proved that the majority of Brazilians leaving the country to study abroad come from the capital São Paulo, followed by other cities also in the state of São Paulo. Then comes Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná. In Canada, Toronto and Vancouver are the most sought cities by Brazilians.

Those looking for more information can find it on the website: www.studycanada.ca/brazil and can contact the CEC by emailing: brazil@studycanada.ca.
