Tropical Drinks to Cool the Summer Brazilian accent
Sotaque Brasileiro, Number 5, Summer 2004
Clean your yard, prepare the grill and gather around friends: summer has arrived! The favorite of those who survived a harsh winter and a not-so-warm spring is spending the day outside, chatting and enjoying the high temperatures. To improve the daily program, serve colorful drinks inspired by the tropical heat!
The Accent summer teaches the reader to create Coconut Rum, Cocktail Fruit, Piña Colada, the irresistible Fri on the Beach and the very Brazilian Cavuco drink that mixes vodka, vermouth, condensed milk and a whole damn pineapple for a authentic "cavucar" taste. Test them out, enjoy our suggestions and, of course, drink in moderation!
Coconut Rum:
1 shot rum
1 tbsp. sugar
¼ cup coconut milk
¼ cup water
4 ice cubes
Mint leaves
Preparation:
Place ingredients in a blender and mix until the mixture is very creamy.
Serve garnished with mint leaves.
If you prefer sweeter, replace the sugar with 2 tbsp. condensed milk.
Fruit Cocktail
1/4 orange juice
1/4 peach juice
1/4 pineapple juice
1/4 grape juice
2 tbsp. cream
1 tbsp. currant
2 shots distilled vodka or champagne
Preparation:
Beat all ingredients in a shaker and serve immediately.
Piña Colada
1 shot rum
Pineapple juice
2 tbsp. coconut milk
2 tbsp. sour cream
Crushed ice
Preparation:
Place half the ice in a cocktail shaker. Add rum, pineapple juice, cream and coconut milk.
Cover and shake.
Fill a highball glass with crushed ice and pour the mixture.
Serve with straws.
Fri on the Beach
1 shot vodka
1/4 shot peach liqueur
1/2 shot orange juice
1 tsp. grenadine or blackcurrant
1 orange slice
1 cherry
Ice
Preparation
In a tall glass, put the ice cubes. Then add the vodka, liqueur and orange juice. Mix well. Garnish with fruit, add straws and finally add the grenadine or blackcurrant before serving.
Cavuco
1 whole, ripe pineapple
2 tbsp. condensed milk
1 shot of vermouth
1 shot vodka
Ice
Preparation:
Cut the pineapple and remove the top.
With the help of a spoon, remove the core of the pineapple.
Blend together the remaining ingredients.
The amount of ingredients depends on the size of the pineapple and the intensity of the
desired beverage -- stronger or weaker.
Pour the mixture into the pineapple and serve with plenty of ice.
