For many, feeling homesick for Brazil is even stronger when winter comes and the cold comes knocking on Canada’s door. Meanwhile, the sun reigns supreme over Brazilian soil! So for those who plan to land in Brazil during the end of this year, something good to do while in the country, besides visiting the family, would be to take in all the marvels that this country has to offer. Well then, pack your bags and make your vacation an unforgettable one. Want to give it a try? Here are some helpful hints about some incredible destinations to visit when the temperature rises – all the way from the north, to the rich, southern Brazilian coast.

Alter do Chão – Pará

In the state of Pará you will find Alter do Chão, a rustic but charming fisherman’s village located on the edge of a fresh water beach made up of the Tapajós river, around 1457 km from Belém. During the dry season, the low level of the water brings about roughly, 100 km of fluvial beaches where soft, white sand appears. For those who come here, the sensation is like having found paradise! Just remember that, in January, you can only reach the majority of the islands by boat, the main means of transportation in the region.

Praia da Pipa – RN

The famous Pipa beach impresses all who visit. You’ll find clear, warm water, natural pools, incredible landscapes and an excellent infrastructure. Tours through the forests and over the dunes are also something to be experienced. The varied cuisine and happening nightlife is also something to see and do. Located in the municipality of Tibau do Sul (RN), this beach was elected by Quatro Rodas Guide as one of the 10 most beautiful in Brazil. It is 85 km away from Natal.

Jericoacoara – CE

Another hip and legitimate Brazilian miracle! Roughly 300 km from Fortaleza, in the recent past Jericoacoara was just a fisherman’s village visited only by adventurers. Currently, against the backdrop of the preserved natural beauty of this location are excellent inns and restaurants, nightlife, and many things to see. One of the highlights would be the moving, white sand dunes. This region is under environmental protection.

Jalapão –TO

This location is for those who enjoy eco-tourism and adventure packed tourism. Located in the state of Tocantins, 198 km from Palmas, Jalapão is a paradise which only a few Brazilian have discovered. Known as the “Oasis of the Desert” because of its creeping vegetation similar to that of savannas, this place has a lot of diversity with its rivers, waterfalls and a very rich flora and fauna. A specialty of the region is the capim dourado, an exclusive fiber which can be transformed into purses, accessories, decorative objects, and other crafts.

Caraíva – BA

In Caraíva, a district of Porto Seguro (BA) located 770 km from Salvador, you can make a choice: luxurious inns or modest and rustic establishments that are also full of charm. Whichever you choose, the beautiful beaches are there for everyone to enjoy! Ideal for those who are looking for peace and quiet, this place – where electrical energy has only been present for the past two years – calls only for adequate flip-flops to circulate around the streets and soft sand, where only “wagon-taxis” may travel. If you can, reserve a couple of days to visit breathtakingly beautiful Trancoso, which is separated from Caraíva by just 39km.

Ilha Grande – RJ

Ilha Grande has one of the most varied paradisiacal beaches on the menu. The Lopes Mendes beach, in Ilha Grande, was considered one of the most beautiful in Brazil by the British newspaper, the Guardian. It is considered the “capital” of Ilha Grande and is not easily accessible (it is reached by foot-trail or by boat) which, therefore, guarantees its preservation. Any and all effort made to reach this beach is compensated when tourists set their gaze upon the transparent, green and blue water. Ilha Grande is a district of Angra dos Reis and is 125 km from Rio de Janeiro (plus a 1 hour and 30 min. boat ride from Mangaratiba).

Guarda do Embaú – SC

The coast of Santa Catarina is also breathtaking. Located in the municipality of Palhoça, 57 km from Florianópolis, Guarda do Embaú is proof of this, and attracts all types of people: from young surfers to entire families. It has diverse river and ocean beaches, which offer even more leisure options. The advantage that Guarda has is its proximity to another paradise in the Catarinense state: Rosa beach, located less than 45 km away.
